Who in their right mind would shoot someone into space who's menstrual cycle is directly dependent on the moon's lunar cycle? You're asking for a hormonal freak show.
And furthermore, shouldn't she have already learned that girls who excel in math and sciences only scare the boys away? I mean I learned that in 7th grade when my math teacher stopped calling on me for the right answers.
No one likes a smart girl, not even a crazy one with moon helmet hair.
