I love your blog! I Do. I read it every day. I think it's great.
What, me? Oh, I have one too. It's below. It's okay I guess. I mean, I like it. But I LOVE your blog.
and you take it. like today i thought "hey i wonder what would happen if i tried to find out if one of my favorite songs has a music video even though it's really old"
ummmm... words cannot express or even remotely describe what you are about to watch only that it includes SYNCHRONIZED SLOW MOTION SOMERSAULTS
and now i present to you Steve Winwood's "While you See a Chance"
i hope this made your day even 1/10th of the way it made mine
ok so clearly this is one of the greatest movies ever. it's played a huge role in my formative years it was the first time my sister and i heard the f-bomb in a movie the first time i learned about zit cream and that it also can be used as paint the first time i saw what a playboy looked like and how i learned a valuable lesson to never venture out from the burbs with out any cash or you'll end up with a flat tire on the freeway and hijinks will ensue
i will not discuss that they remaking this movie with raven "that's so raven" simone (it hurts too much to talk about) i will, however, bring up a few questions that have been bothering me for years: 1) WHY doesn't chris parker (elizabeth shue) take off that ugly coat and scarf the entire movie 2) WHY does chris parker (elizabeth shue) have the frizzy hair of a lame 40 year old woman? 3) WHAT happened to andrew shue? Is he living on a remote island off the coast of south america? Is he working at a starbucks in the valley?
fun fact the actor who plays the brother brad was in another little movie about babysitting called "don't tell mom the babysitters dead" i only bring this up because 1 it contains the great movie line "dishes are done dude" and one of my all time crushes, josh charles pardon me while i swoon.
you pull out my dancing shoes i think that amy grant music videos could be so good for me
why is it amy grant day? cause i heard "takes a little time" on the radio on my way to work, that's why. and because her old videos are hilarious
ok so i love in this video for "EVERY HEARTBEAT" she's wearing what must be a men's xxxl button down blue shirt or a parachute. it's like saying to the world "i want to be a pop star but i want you to respect me for my music not my 90s good looks. i also love the way that it looks like a video taped at glamour shots while she was getting some wallet size prints done and in the way that she's holding the flowers in several shots awkwardly against her face. a lot of this looks like it could also have used for a salon selectives foaming mousse commercial speaking of hair products i used to LOVE amy's big curly 80s/90s hair (i really wanted a perm as a kid)
and here the music video for "BABY BABY" that shows being in love means you can have fun doing anything together---even rolling an orange back and forth across a table to each other.
looking back i wonder if all of her songs are about god...you know cause she's since gone back to doing christain pop. it's like when i learned that "what is life" by george harrison was about god and could never listen to it the same way again.
Ok, so while trying to google the new Wendy's commercial it seems that I am not the only one who finds the use of the Violent Femme's song "Blister in the Sun" both surprising and confusing.
was this a subliminal way for Wendy's to get us to subconsciously link the urge to masturbate with the urge to eat at Wendy's? Also, how did they get this incredibly unmistakable guitar riff and well documented reference to staining ones sheets past the execs?
i'm sure Dave Thomas is rolling over in his grave as you read this.
since i could not find a youtube clip of the wendy's ad please accept this kid from Vancouver's music video to Blister in the Sun and because it's just as random as the use of Blister in the Sun to sell burgers
ok my thoughts on "Tonight" by NKOTB while this song was not as big of a chart topper as some of the other New Kids songs it holds a special place in my heart #1 there's something about songs that reference past hits of the artist that i always find kinda funny it's like a clip show but for pop stars (and rappers) "taught you bought hanging tough as long as you got the right stuff" hilarious! #2 this song also mentions touring...it's like the New Kids version of "Stay" by Jackson Browne (sadly i could not find a youtube clip to illustrate this point---do yourself a favor and look up the lyrics online if you aren't already familiar) #3 a friend pointed out to me once how the New Kids, while not kids or even boys for that matter, have lyrics that always use the word "girl". this song is no exception. i guess the old axiom is: true know your audience. #4 if you can stomach watching the whole video or fast forward to the end the best part of this song has to be the "La La La La La La Tonight" #5 how unfortunate that one of the guys really does look like a monkey...he must have gotten all the left over groupies.
why according to 1980s movies--- when something unexplained happens that causes an adolsecnet boy to either age REALLY REALLY REALLY FAST (ahem Big) or stay the same age for a REALLY REALLY REALLY long time (ahem Flight of the Navigator) the only way to be certain that the people around you are telling the truth----the only way to prove that trapped in your body or in the aged bodies around you are the same people you knew before youre freak "accident" is to insult each other and reinact a taunt or song you used to do with each other... where as i feel like adolscent girls would say "hey it's me remember i'm the only one who knows you still haven't gotten your period and have a huge crush on Donald!"
i wonder if i should have a special passcode/taunt/secret song that i do with my friends as insurance in case something like that should happen to me! "scuz bucket!"
there has been some buzz in the air lately about what people are looking for in their ideal guy or gal. to be honest (possibly due to a slightly low self confidence) i hadn't ever bothered to give it much thought. so tonight i decided i should to start making a list of qualities i'd want in a mate. (this may never happen due to my complete lack of follow through---thanks A.D.D!) but i know one thing: previous knowledge and appreciation of this scene from The Cosby Show and the ability to recognize and it if i just say "Eh man" out of no where in a conversation would probably fall around #8 on the list. (yeah I'm a pretty low maintenance gal except when it comes to pop culture) enjoy! EH MAN! object width="425" height="350"> and judging by how many people have already watched this clip on youtube im sure my perfect mate is out there somewhere!
cause really, what's better than palindromes and a Weird Al Music Video?
ummm the fact that it's Friday???! enjoy this early start to your weekend kids! pretend like it's 7th and your Biology teacher is out so you've got the cool subsitute who let's you watch Cool Runnings for the 13th time and talk quietly with your friends... at least that's how it was in my public schooling. i'm just kidding. i had Biology 4th period. duh!
I'm sure you're sick of hearing about anything Oscar related. So, I won't talk about how much business Netflix is doing this morning from all the movie montages over the course of the night. Instead, I will reinstate the tradition of Nostalgia Mondays with a trip down memory lane. remember when it cool to listen to "Everybody's Free to wear Sunscreen"
a simpler time when Chris Rock was making parody called "No Sex in the Champagne Room"
instead of a crappy movie called "I Think I love my Wife" Never did I think I would look back on those times as the good ole days. but life is funny like that, right? follow up: isn't Chris Rock getting divorced. Doesn't that take a lot of the "comedy" out of the movie
is this a music video? or a commercial for Hot Topic? watch the Avril Lavigne music video for "Girlfriend" below
follow up question: is it weird for anyone else to watch Avril sing a song with the lyrics "I don't like your girlfriend" when we all know she's married in real life? follow follow up question: does anyone else find it odd to be yearning for the days where Avril was trying to be punk not "hot" this video says to me: "HEY! Look at me! I wear mini-school girl skirts. I know I used to trash Britney for wearing mini skirts, but it's different cause BLAAAH I'm Avril. I have a snaggle tooth. I'm Canadian. I'm wearing high heels ironically. That's right I'm unpredictable. You can't tell me what to do! I sang on the soundtrack for Eragon. What have you ever done for humanity? BLAAAAH"
oh, that's right. in high school i went through a phase where i found "bad boys"** really hot. thank goodness i've moved on to nerds now or else i'd find Dane Cook attractive. fact: "my own worst enemy" still holds up as an awesome song to listen to at the gym.
**(boys with spiky/messy hair who didn't dress preppy, but actually didn't do anything bad but were allusive and not interested me) .
for "baby fish mouth" to sweep the nation, don't you?
and while we're on the subject of "sweeping the nation" (even though it's not predictiontuesday) i'm going to make the prediction the new Polyphonic Spree's cover of "Love My Way" originally made famous by the Psychedelic Furs will sweep the nation or at the very least warm your heart (even though i think that their cover of Nirvana's "Lithium" will have more radio play) Here check out the original (since the cover isn't on youtube yet) and see what I mean
is dedicated to Britney Spears and her new hair did
Enjoy Pavement's "Cut your Hair"
and you know what, just because i feel like Brit must be going through some serious Girl, Interrupted kinda stuff..i'm gonna throw in my favorite Stephen Malkmus song "Jenny and the Ess-Dog" to let her know I be feeling her.
by favorite Stephen Malkmus song what i mean is "this is the only Stephen Malkmus song I know and I happen to really like it"
Harold and Maude particularly this scene esepcially this quote
By the way, this poster (and the opening sequence) for Six Feet Under always looked like a rip off from this movie.
It's funny, i could watch this movie over and over again and feel okay with it's dealing of life and death, but i have to change the channel immediately when a Six Feet Under promo comes on Bravo. Maybe Cats Stevens' music makes serious subjects easier for me to deal with. Either way have a lovely Sunday. If you haven't seen this movie add it to your Netflix queue and Rosemary's Baby---Ruth Gordon is the ish.
Zach Braff saw the new OK GO video "Do What You Want" and shouted to his assistant "GET MY LAWYER ON THE PHONE!"
Of course when I saw the video I quickly reminded all my friends how I told them the next big thing going to be mini trampolines---if only i had blogged about it for prediction Tuesday. Oh, well. At least this makes up for the time i wrongly predicted that "That's So Raven" would become the new catchphrase. I'm still giving it time.
